Okay, this is another rant, but everyone can relate. I'm from a more 'country' or 'redneck' town, so I quite often see a myriad of clothing and hair no-no's. This is my plea to everyone to finally rid our society of these fashion don'ts.
acid wash jeans-they aren't cute, especially if they really are from the 80s.
mullets-there is no such thing as business in the front and party in the back. It's ALL bad!
shoulder pads-if Armani or Versace didn't put them there, they shouldn't be there.
When out in public, sleeves are a must, it isn't sanitary to have sleeve holes that go down past your belly button. If you have been wearing your confederate flag hat since before your child (who is at least in high school) was born, it's time to retire it. None of these horrendous fashion offenses can be defended by lack of cash. I have seen way cuter things at Wal-mart and Goodwill!
I know that together, we can make the world a better and more beautiful place if we just work together to get rid of these 'looks'. Thank you for your help!
Ok, here goes another list! Everyone has their list of favorite movies, but it is so hard to pick just one or two all time favorites. So here's my list of pick me up movies, the ones I can watch over and over and never get sick of, and they always make me happy!
1. Paris when it Sizzles- you can never go wrong with Audrey Hepburn.
2. Twilight- I know, I know, BUT in my defense, I love the story and love watching it play out. All those Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fans have got to know where I'm coming from on this one.
3. Cinderella-yes the animated one. I will always love this movie, you can never go wrong with a disney fairytale.
4. Breakfast at Tiffany's- I
love every Audrey Hepburn movie, (obviously, there's 2 of her movies on my list of 5), and this is just never gets old-like Holly Golightly says, nothing bad ever happens at Tiffany's.
5. Wedding Crashers- Hilarious, every single time.
I know my tastes are a little towards the "pop" side, but 'pop' culture is, after all, what most of my posts are about. These are just fun videos for summer. Know of any other good, fun, summer songs/videos?
Everyone knows that couple who is obnoxiously affectionate, you know, hugging, kissing, whining, baby talk and the like? Personally I don't object to hand-holding, putting your arms around each other, and the occasional peck or 'I love you' when in public, but when couples are full on making out or cooing and baby talking that is uncomfortable for everyone around you! Where is the line drawn as far as PDA goes? I asked two of my guy friends what their opinion was, and this is what they said
So its time for another top 5 list! This week I've noticed a couple things I feel are social faux pas, some in the classroom, some outside.
1. Eating your lunch in class. I am taking maymester classes, which last about 2 1/2 to 3 hours, so I totally understand getting hungry during class, I myself usually bring a small snack to eat during the breaks the teachers usually give. However, bring a spread of cheese, pitas/crackers, and apples which you spread out over your desk, slice and eat during class is inappropriate! Its rude, unsanitary, and you could eat before class.
2. People who make rude remarks about others in class. I'm not talking about gossip here, I mean those people who sit and talk about how wrong/stupid someone or their opinion is. If you disagree, or think the person is flat out wrong, say something! Contribute to the class discussion, don't just sit there and grumble.
3. Thoughtlessly exposing others to your second-hand smoke. I am a non-smoker, so I know I'm biased, but I feel like exposing others to your cigarette is really rude. I was at a drug-store with a drive-thru recently, and a woman pulled up to the window with her freshly lit cigarette. The woman just sat at the window blowing smoke into the poor pharmacist's face and into the drugstore. Can't you wait to light up until after you drive off?
4. Letting your phone go off at an inappropriate time. You know when you are going to be in a situation where your phone shouldn't go off. Just turn it on silent to begin with!
5. Regifting. If it is something you don't want that someone else will actually use and it is almost new, then go ahead! BUT when it is a gift card that is obviously years old or something that has been opened before, just suck it up and buy a real gift. Unless you just want to piss the receiver off.
Everyone's heard of the freshman 15. On college campuses there is always great access to food at any hour of the day. Plus, there's the drinking college kids tend to enjoy which can pack on the pounds. So it really isn't a mystery as to why or how many girls gain weight their first year of college. But, I've noticed that many girls lose ALOT of weight.
I'm not talking about a healthy 5-10 pounds because now you watch what you eat a little more, go to the gym or have a running partner, I'm talking about the girls who starve themselves. There is one girl in particular I go to school with who was a healthy weight in high school, but when she got to college she started losing a ton of weight, and it has gotten to the point where she looks sick. She isn't the only girl I've seen around campus who looks like she's going to break in half either. It isn't just a couple girls either, up to one third of college girls will have some sort of eating disorder while in school.
I'm not going to go off on some tangent about hollywood or the modeling industry and how they objectify women. I think generally, this is a peer or personal issue for girls. These girls are pretty, involved and have lots of friends, but for whatever reason, they are rapidly and unhealthfully losing lots of weight. Take Lindsay Lohan for example, when she seems to be healthy, working, and in a generally good place in life, her weight is normal, healthy and attractive, but when she seems to be in a bad place, like now, in the wake of her breakup and lack of work, she looks way too skinny and all-around unhealthy.
Models and Hollywood definitely have some effect, but I feel like in the college setting the causes have more to do with what's around you. On campus, you focus and follow your peers more so than a public figure, not to mention the major pressures and stresses of school itself. I personally think a girl with a little more weight on her is so much prettier than a super skinny girl, look at all these girls? What do you think? Nothing wrong with being really thin?

I happen to be a fan of lists, so I think I'm going to make it a habit to have a weekly list on here. This week it will be the top 5 ridiculous news/gossip stories I've seen/ come across in the past week.
This is insane! She will be 84 when her child graduates high school. I support a woman's right to choose when she wants to have a baby, but this is a little ridiculous, especially since Britain's female life expectancy is 81.
2. Paris Hilton is being sued by a production company because she did not adequately promote her recent film failure "Pledge This!". Her lawyer claims she failed to do so because she "is the single busiest person on the planet". HA. What I find ridiculous about this is the fact that Paris Hilton gets any buzz at all anymore.
3. All the press about Jon of Jon & Kate plus 8 allegedly having an affair. These people are only on T.V. because they have 8 kids and fight constantly, making for good T.V. drama. I also find it ridiculous that TLC, airs 3 T.V. about life in a family with multiples, Jon and Kate's being one of them. Who cares if you have 18, 12, or 8 kids? Stop already! Next thing you know, Octomom's T.V. show really will happen.
4. Farrah Faucet's cancer documentary. It is very saddening that Farrah Faucet is fighting a losing battle to cancer, however, I don't think it's something that should be made into a T.V. special. Jade Goody's documentary was somewhat excusable since she was known only from reality T.V., but Farrah Faucet is a legitimate actress. I just can't believe anyone would want to document such a painful story that is destined to have a sad ending. Despite this, apparently a second installment is in the works.
5. Celebrity whiners. Jessica Biel was just recently interviewed for Allure magazine, and complained that she feels like she doesn't get parts some times because she's too pretty. Gag. At least you aren't too ugly Jessica.
I know that everyone, with the exemption of a select few, who is of college age and goes to school in athens has made at least one trip downtown. Whenever you mix college students and free-flowing alcohol you are bound to get some sort of entertaining results...just think of the recent college anthem 'I love college', the entire song is about drinking. I have seen many hilarious situations outside the many bars downtown, including large girls in mustard costumes chatting up little people, girls with no shoes in sight, girls soaked from head to toe in god only knows what, girls hanging over rails while kissing other girls, and much else. One usually witnesses these things when being designated driver-so do it a couple times, you will definitely get a laugh in!- a girl walks out of a bar in nothing but her bra and underwear. Yes, she WALKED out, not carried. The worst part was she was with a couple other guys who were laughing and holding her clothes. She just laughed, "guys!-giggle giggle-give my clothes back!-giggle giggle" Who knows how this girl lost her clothes and why didn't she seem to think it was so funny? So my question is, what is the funniest/craziest thing you have seen downtown, or at a party?
I like to people watch. It's not very hard to find something or someone out and about. A couple of weeks ago I was in a suburb of Savannah visiting family. This is a nice quiet little town, but there are always some people who like to stand out. For example, this guy:
I've grown up in Georgia and while I haven't ever lived in downtown Atlanta, I've been there many times, and I have NEVER seen a car like this! Since the picture may not show enough, let's go over what is in this guy's 'ride/whip'. Enormous tires/rims, lift kit, custom paint and interior, lamborghini doors, huge t.v. screen where the backseat should be, t.v. screen in each door, and where the glove box should be, and swiveling chairs. I'm sure there was more I couldn't see as well. I know he wasn't on 'Pimp my Ride', so he must have paid for all this somehow...and this particular town is generally middle class families...hmm...I don't think this vehicle is practical at all, but then again I don't really like the idea of having to jump or climb up into a car. At least he's keeping it clean! What do you think? Would you drive this car?
